Fractions, Decimals & Percentages
A half, 0.5 and 50% are one idea wearing three costumes. Once a child sees that fractions, decimals and percentages are the same amounts written differently, the whole topic stops being three subjects and becomes one.
This path runs from sharing a shape in half to adding, multiplying and converting freely between all three forms. Start wherever it fits and work along the line.
The path
Each step is a short five-minute game. They start with halving and sharing, build the fraction ideas, then bring in tenths, decimals and percentages and the links between them.
The foundation
Fractions are where many children quietly lose confidence, usually because the first idea, equal parts of a whole, was rushed. Get that solid and equivalence, decimals and percentages all follow from it.
Five minutes a day along this path keeps each new idea tied to the last. When these feel easy, the rest of the games by year are waiting.
Keep exploring
Each path takes one strand of maths and lays its games out in the order they build, the same way this one does.
From counting to twenty all the way to reading, writing and rounding numbers in the ten millions.
Follow the path →
From number bonds to written column methods and, finally, subtracting past zero into negatives.
From doubling and the first tables to long multiplication and long division, table by table.
From recognising coins and notes to adding amounts, solving problems and working out change.
From o'clock and half past to reading an analogue clock to the exact minute.
